Old Business

The Club has 24 paid family memberships so far in 2023.  Tom Ferguson will be removing members who did not pay their dues for 2021 and 2022 from the Club Roster and mailing list in March, so if you fall into this category and still wish to receive Club information, please send your 2023 payment to Tom.
Wendell Salas noted that the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup schedule has been modified due to conflicting events at Pikes Peak International Raceway.  The RMMR Track Day at PPIR will now be held on Wednesday, June 14th followed by the Autocross at PPIR on Thursday, June 15th.  Friday, the 16th will be saved for driving up to Cripple Creek for the Friday Night Social and Saturday will feature the Show ‘n Shine Car Show in Cripple Creek.  There will be two hotels providing discounted rates in Cripple Creek, but there will be no official hotel for either Colorado Springs or Cripple Creek.  The event website with details and the registration portal is up and running at www.rockymountainmustangroundup.org.  Also, the organizers got the Roundup listed in MCA’s Mustang Times magazine event calendar for the February issue.

The second annual Colorado Mustang Stampede in Steamboat Springs as organized by FRMC members Michael and Melinda Bateman is also scheduled around the Father’s Day weekend covering June 15-17.  The event website for registering and viewing the event schedule is up at www.coloradomustangstampede.org.   Michael noted that Steamboat doesn’t have a large enough lot for an autocross, but a fun mountain drive is scheduled Thursday, June 15th along with a Botanical Gardens Park Tour.  Friday will feature a miniature golf tournament and the Big House Burgers Cruise-In Dinner while Saturday is scheduled for the Car Show on Yampa Street and a car-centric outdoor movie night.  A 2 page flyer for the Mustang Stampede is attached to the email for these minutes and is also included in the FRMC website Bullitt-N Board section.
The 52nd Annual Tri-State Swap Meet was held Saturday and Sunday, February 4th and 5th at the National Western Complex.  The event appeared to be a huge success with thousands of auto related products bumpers to bumper and everything in between including tools, decals, memorabilia and more.  FRMC was well represented by members attending or offering items for sale at their tables and more than one member estimated the turnout on Saturday at close to 20,000 people.

New Business

Tom Ferguson provided an update on member Bob Hawsey’s health as he starts a new round of treatment February 27th.  You can send your best wishes to Bob at mustang67899@yahoo.com.
Tom also noted an interesting factoid listed in the most recent issue of the Porsche Club of America’s Panorama magazine.  According to Panorama, EV charger issues still abound with 20 percent of recent EV buyers in California switching back to ICE vehicles in 2021 expressing disdain over slow charging times and the availability of functioning charger stations.  The $100,000 per single charger cost is a deterrent against charger expansion and California’s electrical grid is not capable of handling much more charger infrastructure without major expansion of both power generation and power distribution.  Also, noted was that range anxiety tends to cause owners to run their EV battery up to full charge every night which deteriorates the battery more quickly reducing lifespan between 10% to 23% and rapid charging as opposed to standard charging causes heating and stress in the battery electrodes or plates reducing battery life and effectiveness.  If true, EV market penetration, even in friendly California, is going to be slower than our politicians hope without a major breakthrough in battery and charger technology.  It should be noted that Porsche is one of the most pro-EV adaptors with numerous models already featuring full electric variants.
Michael Bateman announced that the Early Mustang Club will again be sponsoring a National Mustang Day Car Cruise on April 16th that will be open to all the local Mustang clubs and owners.  Details will follow, but the hope is to complete the cruise at the recently reopened El Rancho restaurant in Evergreen like last year.
FRMC’s next meeting will be March 11th at Romano’s Italian Restaurant, 11am.

MCA Report

Dates for the recently added Topeka, Kansas MCA National Show have been finalized as October 6-8.  That gives us two national shows within a day’s driving distance of Denver as the Mustang Enchantment show in Albuquerque, New Mexico is scheduled for June 9-11.  So far, 5 members have confirmed their plans to attend the Albuquerque show amidst what is shaping up to be a very busy June.   President Standiford suggested it may be time to begin discussing a joint sponsorship for a future Colorado MCA National with other local Mustang clubs.  Wendell Salas said that Mike Nowlin of the Mustang Car Club of Colorado has expressed interest in a similar idea.
