Old Business

The Club has 24 paid family memberships so far for 2024.  During the January meeting, the Club welcomed new members Bryan DeSmet, who owns a 2007 GT convertible and a 1971 Mach 1, and Gregg and Bonnie Lehnerz, who after years of motorcycling have transitioned to a 2020 supercharged GT convertible.  Tom has been approached by 3 more prospective members, but they were unable to come to the January meeting.
Member Mike Thomas is developing plans for 2024 Mustang Enthusiast outings including an early Spring Guanella Pass/Georgetown cruise with a breakfast stop at the Shaggy Sheep Restaurant off Hwy 285, a Memorial Day weekend Yellowstone Mustang Rally Run to Cody, Wyoming including overnight stays in the historic Irma Hotel (details on past Rallys are in the Yellowstone Mustang Rally Facebook page), and a “once in a lifetime” Route 66 “The Mother Road” excursion that could be done in sections or the whole route from Chicago to Santa Monica around the second week in September.  Mike will be reporting periodically on these plans as they develop.
Wendell Salas provided an update on June’s upcoming Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup to be held on Thursday to Saturday May 13th to the 15th.  The Mountain Tour will be a drive up Pikes Peak from 10 to noon on Thursday, June 13th with the Autocross held on Friday at Pikes Peak International Raceway.  It looks like there will be no open track day at PPIR this year, but the popular Show ‘n Shine and other concluding activities will finish off in Cripple Creek with the host hotel, the brand new Chamonix Casino Hotel.  The website for registration and event details is included in the Events of Interest section at the end of these minutes.
With the driving season over until Spring, your officers are looking for ideas for monthly events to keep the club active.  Some suggestions discussed so far include:
  • A road trip to Colorado Springs to view the National Museum of World War II Aviation
  • Visit the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
  • Tour the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden
  • Visit the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver
  • Tour Cars Remember When in Englewood or The Vehicle Vault in Parker with their always changing inventory
  • Road trip to Wyoming next April 8th to view the Total Solar Eclipse

Other suggestions are very welcome.  One idea broached at our January meeting was a visit to the Spirit of Flight Center at the Erie Airport next week, however, Wendell Salas subsequently confirmed that the facility has permanently closed.  Contact one of the officers with your ideas as FRMC is always looking for more volunteers and input.

New Business

Tom Ferguson is once again be taking orders for FRMC polo shirts in both men’s and women’s styles this time.  He will send out a separate email with details on colors, style, sizes and prices later this week that you can respond to.  We need a minimum of six shirts ordered.
If anyone is looking for another Mustang, Tom has been contacted about three that are available in varying states of condition.  The best is a 2019 Bullitt in historical Highland Green, the worst shape car is a 1964 289 4 speed, and the last is a running red 1998  GT convertible with a good body, but interior that needs work.  If anyone is interested, contact Tom and he will put you in touch with the sellers.
The Club voted to start weeknight meetings in April so that the weekends are free for attending cruises and shows.  Effective with Thursday, April 11th, FRMC will meet at Romano’s Italian Restaurant at 7pm.
Also occurring in April is the MCA’s 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Mustang at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama and a caravan organizing to drive there from Denver starting April 1st (details below in events of interest).  Also, on Sunday the 14th, the Early Mustang Club of Colorado will be conducting their Annual National Mustang Day Cruise.   We’ll publish more details as they develop.  SAAC Colorado has expressed an interest in both our clubs joining to celebrate Mustang Day either through this cruise or something else.  Once we know more about the cruise we can decide what works best.
The next FRMC meeting will be Saturday, February 10th at Romano’s Italian Restaurant in Littleton at 5666 S. Windermere Street at 11am.

Treasurer's Report

Treasurer, Tom Ferguson, reported the Club had $1,741.27 in the Vectra Bank checking account as of the meeting date.  Tom has paid for the December Holiday Party ($1,711), FRMC’s membership in the Collector Car Council of Colorado ($190), and an annual subscription to The Latest Scoop ($28) which keeps us informed on automotive events throughout the year.  FRMC dues for 2024 are $50.00 and can be sent to Tom at 525 Fox Hunt Circle, Highlands Ranch 80126.  Please make the dues checks out to FRMC rather than Tom.
Tom is holding the name tags for new members, Todd Griffin and Jim and Susan Johnston.  Please come to a future event to get your tags, guys!

MCA Report

President Larry stated his hope that FRMC could earn another coveted MCA President’s Award in 2024.  There are several conditions to achieve for the award including two that have already been met through the efforts of Larry and Tom Kay, but two others will require our members to step up.  We need to have at least five member cars attend the MCA National show in Des Moines, Iowa on August 9-11, and we need two members to submit a short article with photos on their Mustang experience for publication in the MCA’s Mustang Times magazine.  A full list of the MCA shows is included in the Events of Interest at the end of these minutes.
