Old Business

The Club had a final count of 49 paid family memberships for 2025.  So far, 35 memberships have been renewed for 2026.
Art Apple’s Celebration of Life was held at Crown Hill Cemetery on January 26th and he was laid to rest at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park on January 29th in Los Angeles.  Ron and Ann Fox attended the ceremony in LA and Jackie Ferguson brought a brochure from Art’s Celebration of Life and a poem in honor of Art provided by Art and Bonnie’s friend, Cathy Wagner, to the February club meeting.
National Mustang Day is April 17th and FRMC President Wendell Salas has been in touch with our sister MCA Club, The Early Mustang Club of Colorado, to conduct a joint event on Saturday,  April 18th.  Details to follow.  Wendell ordered some National Mustang Day decals for the Mustang Owner’s Museum fundraiser conducted by MCA and National Parts Depot in recognition of Mustang Day.  The decals will be distributed during the April 18th event.  The two clubs are also hoping to do a joint outing at the Bob Williams Collection sometime in May.
We had to cancel our visit to the National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs on Saturday, January 24th  due to bad weather, but we will reschedule later this spring when weather conditions should not be an issue.  Tom Ferguson will send out an email for date suggestions later.   As originally planned, our visit will include a private tour of the facility, including its renowned restoration shop, that should last an estimated hour and a half to two hours.   Following the museum tour, we will be shooting for a group lunch at The Airplane Restaurant in Colorado Springs at 1665 N Newport Rd.   The restaurant features dining inside a modified US Air Force KC-97 tanker fuselage.
The annual Tri-State Swap Meet at the National Western Complex was held February 7th and 8th with three FRMC members having tables of equipment for sale.  As always, the turnout for this event was huge and the weather couldn’t have been better.
Wendell Salas reported that registration for the  June 18-20 Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup has opened and the response has been strong.  The Roundup will include a Thursday track day at Pikes Peak International Raceway with am autocross and pm open track activities scheduled.  The mountain tour drive up Pikes Peak and later to Cripple Creek and event social will occur on Friday, and the Mustang Show n’Shine and prize announcements will complete the event on Saturday.  The hotel packages for the Chamonix Casino Hotel are available now too.

New Business

For those looking to do something for the 100 year anniversary of Route 66, the Collector Car Council of Colorado through Dick Thompson forwarded an email describing an upcoming world record-breaking classic car parade on May 28th through May 30th called the Route 66 Capital Cruise in Tulsa to honor The Mother Road.  It’s a long email, but anyone interested should contact Tom Ferguson and he will forward the email to you.
The below list of Events of Interest is rapidly expanding so check out things to do there.  Not yet scheduled, but possible club outings to discuss and schedule for 2026 include:

Tour the National Museum of WWII Aviation in Colorado Springs
Visit to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry in Colorado Springs
Tour the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
Spend an afternoon track day at High Plains Raceway outside Byers
Tour the Cussler Museum of Classic Cars in Arvada
Visit the Rambler Ranch in Elizabeth
FRMC was asked by a proud father, Mark Spragins, if we could provide a vintage Mustang for photos at a May 23rd wedding of two recent West Point graduates at the Willow Ridge Manor outside Morrison.  John McNurney volunteered his 1965 red convertible for the photo shoot and the bride’s father will make a donation to the FRMC treasury.  Getting to do community events like this and last year’s Mullen High School cheerleader squad photos make us realize the special place the Mustang holds in the American psyche.
