Old Business
The Club had a final count of 49 paid family memberships for 2025. So far, 28 memberships have been renewed for 2026.
As you are all aware, we lost our long time member Art Apple in December. To honor Art’s memory, Bonnie Apple, will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Art on Monday, January 26th starting at 11am at the Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery at 7777 W 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge. The celebration will be in the building on the right just after the cemetery entrance. There will be a lunch served following the celebration. Art’s funeral will be held January 29th at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles where his parents reside. There is additional information on Art and a place to leave written tributes on the neptunesociety.com website.
National Mustang Day is April 17th and FRMC President Wendell Salas will be checking with our fellow MCA club, the Early Mustang Club of Colorado to see if they want to team up for an event in honor of the Mustang’s 62nd Birthday. Wendell also ordered some National Mustang Day decals for the Mustang Owner’s Museum fundraiser conducted by MCA and National Parts Depot in recognition of Mustang Day. The decals should be here in time for the February club meeting. In addition, the club has received an inquiry from Chris Vopat, one of the organizers of the nationally known Mustang Week which will be held in the Houston area this year over April 14-18. Chris is encouraging FRMC members to participate with a link to details noted below in events of interest.
At our November meeting, the club decided to conduct a group visit to the National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs on Saturday, January 24th. At our January meeting, we agreed to meet at the museum for an 11am private tour of the facility, including its renowned restoration shop, that should last an estimated hour and a half to two hours. Jim Yank is finalizing the details for our visit, but this is going to be a popular event with at least 26 members stating their intention to participate. Following the museum tour, the group is hoping to move to The Airplane Restaurant (formerly Solos) in Colorado Springs at 1665 N Newport Rd for a late lunch. Mike Thomas is arranging this part of the outing which can include dining inside a modified US Air Force KC-97 tanker fuselage. Should there be any plan changes or weather concerns as we get closer to the 24th, Tom Ferguson will send out an email.

New Business
Wendell Salas distributed this year’s poster for the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup which will be held in June, and includes a Thursday track day at Pikes Peak International Raceway with autocross and open track activities scheduled. The mountain tour drive to Cripple Creek and event social will occur on Friday, and the Mustang Show n’Shine will complete the RMMR on Saturday. Registration is expected to open by February 1st and hotel packages should be finalized by then too.
Jim Yank has suggested another possible club activity for the coming months with a visit to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry in Colorado Springs (wmmi.org). More on this to come.
Dean Gianarkis addressed a troubling trend regarding insurance rates for collector cars. Dean’s long time carrier quoted a 70 percent premium increase on his 2008 Shelby GT-C for 2026. Dean has found a replacement policy that is not as radical as that, but costs are clearly increasing and if other FRMC members are looking for alternatives, Dean is happy to discuss his experience (908-432-6131).
Vice President Chrissy Weathers reminded the club that this year’s Sturgis Mustang Rally is scheduled for September 1st through September 6th. The website registration for 2026 doesn’t appear open yet, but Chrissy and Kenny have been long time participants in this event and can provide more information to interested members.
Finally, Paul Revesz again thanked the club for its generous holiday support for Perpetual Learning Communities, especially in light of recent across the board cuts in state and federal funding.
