FRMC Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date and Location

The Thursday, July 9th FRMC Member Meeting was held at Romano’s Italian Restaurant in Littleton starting at 6:30pm.  Attendance was strong with 36 members present.  Romano’s suggested Tom Ferguson attempt to collect RSVPs for future meetings so the restaurant can be sure to dedicate proper staffing to our dining needs, however, there were no apparent issues at the meeting even if Super Waitress, Mel, seemed a bit more stressed than usual.

Old Business

So far, we have 43 club memberships for 2026.   We finished last year with 49 memberships.
The 38th Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup was held June 18-20th at Pikes Peak International and Cripple Creek with award winning vehicles from the Yank’s, Dowdell’s, Gianarkis and Krasche’s being honored.  Also, several members participated in the track day activities.  As always, Gary and Jillian Spencer deserve special recognition for their volunteer work on the Roundup which keeps them very busy and limits their enjoyment of the show.  In the past more FRMC members participated as volunteers on activities and we should strive to reach that level in the future to ensure the continued success of the Roundup.
On June 19th and 20th the Annual Classic Rock Cruise-In Car Show was held in Castle Rock.  This is always a huge event that can be hard to get a vehicle in, but Rick and Heidi Mori got their 1967 Shelby GT350 registered and it took home an award on Saturday.  Lastly, June 28th the All Ford and Mercury Picnic and Car Show was held at Arapahoe Park in Golden with at least eight FRMC vehicles being shown.  This is always a top notch event for fans of the diverse universe of Ford cars.

New Business

The list directly below includes events not yet scheduled but shows possible club outings to discuss and schedule for 2026.  As always, your officers encourage FRMC members to step-up and do the research to get any of these on our schedule.

Visit to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry in Colorado Springs
Tour the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
Tour the Cussler Museum of Classic Cars in Arvada (in August)
Visit the Rambler Ranch in Elizabeth (possibly in the winter)
Schedule some Fall Cruises for our Mustangs (see below)
Tom Ferguson and Keith Johnson are organizing a half day open track outing at High Plains Raceway on Thursday, July 23rd with details for participating as follows:
Open Lapping Day at High Plains Raceway near Byers – It’s official…we are going to hold a half day (1pm – 5pm) session for $159 per driver at High Plains on Thursday, July 23rd. Expect hot weather, but we wanted to do this before events like the Fall FRMC Chili-feed cause a scheduling conflict. From experience we know that a half day is plenty of track time for most of us on the fabulous HPR road course and a great time is guaranteed. Spectators are also welcome at no cost. No prior experience is needed and it only takes a lap or two to become familiar with the track layout. The gates to High Plains open no later than 11:30 and we strongly suggest arriving around that time as we will need to do some preliminary vehicle inspections of things like brake fluid levels, tires, removal of loose items from interiors and trunks, helmet distribution (if you don’t have one to bring) and most importantly attending the mandatory driver/rider meeting at 12:30. If you miss that, you don’t get on the track. Also, be sure to fill up your gas tanks at the Love’s Travel Station in Bennett or the Conoco in Strasburg on your way to the track. You will use a fair amount of gas open lapping. You need to pre-register with High Plains to participate at www.highplainsraceway.com where you will find more info on what should be a great experience. If you plan on participating, please let Tom know so we have an idea how big our presence will be. We aren’t renting the track exclusively for our club, so preregistering early is a good idea. Questions? Contact Tom or Keith (Ltsrock38@yahoo.com).

As mentioned above, Dick Thompson is hoping for a strong turnout of Mustangs for the Colorado Collector Car Council Rocky Mountain Car Show and Swap Meet (details below) on July 25th.  Dick will ensure we get to park together if we show up with several FRMC cars.  If you are looking to do something later in the evening of the 25th, Englewood is having a Car Cruise on South Broadway from 3pm to 9pm starting at Englewood High School.

Tom Ferguson will be researching Thursday and Friday dates in August for a club visit to the Cussler Museum of Classic Cars.  The extensive collection includes over 100 significant automobiles ranging from 1906 to 1965 and is located at 14959 W 69th Avenue in Arvada.  Expect an email soon from Tom with suggested dates.  If we have ten or more FRMC members attend, admission is $12/person.  Otherwise, it is $15 adults, $12 seniors.  Museum hours are 10am to 4:30pm.
The Annual FRMC Chili Feed is scheduled for September 26th at the home of Dan and Cathy Ryhal near beautiful Pine, Colorado.  At the July meeting, we voted to hold the Chili Feed on September 19th, but the Ryhal’s will be out of town that weekend, so we moved it to the only open date in September.  We will be coordinating attendance and food contributions in early September.
As we move into the Fall driving season, Mike Thomas and John and Paul Revesz are researching possible car cruises for the club.  Mike’s would most likely occur on a weekend, while the Revesz brothers would arrange something for a weekday.
The next FRMC meeting will be held Thursday, August 13th at Romano’s Italian Restaurant at 6:30pm.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Wendell Salas was not in attendance and his hip surgery scheduled for June 23rd  has been moved back due to complications with his blood hemoglobin count.   He will be pretty much home-bound for the two months following.  Our vice-president, Chrissy Weathers, was also out so Treasurer/Secretary, Tom Ferguson led the July meeting
