Old Business
So far, 42 club memberships have been renewed for 2026. We finished last year with 49 memberships. Our latest members are the DeLauro’s and Miller’s, who live in Highlands Ranch and Byers, respectively. The Delauro’s own a 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake and the Miller’s own numerous enthusiast cars including a 1969 Shelby GT350, 1973 Mach 1, and 2018 GT350R. Welcome to FRMC folks!
National Mustang Day A joint driving event with the Early Mustang Club of Colorado, FRMC, and Denver Mustang Club was held on Saturday, May 16th featuring a cruise from the Wooly Mammoth Parking Lot near the intersection of 470 West and I-70 through Red Rocks Park, Ken Caryl Valley, Deer Creek Canyon and completing for a buffet lunch at Snowpack Taproom & Pizzeria in Conifer. The restaurant provided salad, wings, and pizza for $20/person including tax and tip and everything went smoothly. Nearly 40 Mustangs of various vintages participated and numerous pictures from the event have been posted to the FRMC Mustang Facebook Page. Also, Dean Gianarkis is working with the editor of Mustang Times to get a short write-up on the cruise posted in a future edition of the MCA’s official magazine.
That same weekend, a small group of our members attended the Rio Grande Club’s Mustang Enchantment Show in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Larry and Karen Standiford reported that the weather was great and their Mustang convertible secured a triple crown winning a division gold, the longest distance covered award, and best sob story as the speedbumps in front of the hotel did a number on their muffler. The great people of the Rio Grande Club and Eric Shirley, specifically, facilitated a repair job using Eric’s home lift and tools. Per Larry, this is the third year in a row an FRMC member has won(?) the sob story with Ron and Ann Fox experiencing a leaky tire two years ago and Dave Skinner’s Mustang II Mach 1 encountering a deer last year.
Joe Bolis organized a tour of the NGD Car Storage Facility at 2155 S Sheridan Blvd for FRMC and SAAC Colorado members on Saturday, May 23rd. NGD houses over 200 cars indoors and does detail and mechanical work also. The good folks at NGD are always great hosts and everyone attending had a great time. NGD is holding a Cars & Coffee event on June 20th if you didn’t get to the tour in May.
FRMC was asked by a proud father, Mark Spragins, if we could provide a vintage Mustang for photos at a May 23rd wedding of two recent West Point graduates at the Willow Ridge Manor outside Morrison. John McNurney volunteered his 1967 red convertible for the photo shoot and the bride’s father made a cash donation to the FRMC treasury. A photo of the bride and John’s Mustang has been posted to the FRMC Mustangs Facebook Page.
Rounding out the month of May and taking us into June, the Early Mustang Club arranged a tour of a private car collection in the Loveland/Johnstown area on Sunday, May 31st. The tour was at a private residence and the members that attended said it was a spectacular collection and experience. The 13th Annual Lincoln Tech Car Show was on Saturday, June 6th in Denver and the 43rd Annual Colorado Concours d’Elegance was held on Sunday, June 7th in Littleton at Arapahoe Community College. Around 35 Mustangs (both Shelby and Ford varieties, Ford GTs, Cobras and one Mustang GTD were exhibited to what appeared to be a record Concours crowd. Thanks to all the FRMC members who brought their cars to ensure that the Mustang/Shelby area had the second largest turnout after the always big Porsche contingent. It seems possible we could pick up some new club members from the large contingent showing cars or enjoying the show.
It’s been covered before, but the June digital issue of The Latest Scoop magazine was released recently. It is under new ownership and some nice upgrades include articles with photos, and car events across Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico and Oklahoma are sorted into state specific pages which makes The Scoop more user friendly. Free digital subscriptions are available by registering at www.https://tinyurl.com/Email-Newsletter-Signup. This subscription will get you an email newsletter with a link to the Latest Scoop issue plus a separate biweekly listing of Colorado car events and the digital SHIFT Colorado magazine every 3 months. New Business
The below list of Events of Interest is rapidly expanding so check out things to do there. Not yet scheduled, but possible club outings to discuss and schedule for 2026 include:
Visit to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry in Colorado Springs
Tour the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
Spend a weekday track day at High Plains Raceway outside Byers in July/August
Tour the Cussler Museum of Classic Cars in Arvada (seasonal closing after Sept)
Visit the Rambler Ranch in Elizabeth
The 38th Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup is June 18-20th at Pikes Peak International and Cripple Creek with a link to the details in the Upcoming Club or Other Events of Interest section below. Several FRMC members will be attending and Gary Spencer has mentioned that he and Jillian could use volunteers to assist with attendee check-in and Show ‘n Shine logistics. On June 28th t, the All Ford and Mercury Picnic and Car Show will be held at Arapahoe Park in Golden with details below. Dick Thompson is hoping for a strong turnout of Mustangs for the Colorado Collector Car Council Rocky Mountain Car Show and Swap Meet (details below) on July 25th. Dick will ensure we get to park together if we show up with several FRMC cars.
Finally, Tom Ferguson and Keith Johnson are organizing a half day open track outing at High Plains Raceway on Thursday, July 23rd with details for participating as follows:
Open Lapping Day at High Plains Raceway near Byers – It’s official…we are going to hold a half day (1pm – 5pm) session for $159 per driver at High Plains on Thursday, July 23rd. Expect hot weather, but we wanted to do this before events like the Fall FRMC Chili-feed cause a scheduling conflict. From experience we know that a half day is plenty of track time for most of us on the fabulous HPR road course and a great time is guaranteed. Spectators are also welcome at no cost. No prior experience is needed and it only takes a lap or two to become familiar with the track layout. The gates to High Plains open no later than 11:30 and we strongly suggest arriving around that time as we will need to do some preliminary vehicle inspections of things like brake fluid levels, tires, removal of loose items from interiors and trunks, helmet distribution (if you don’t have one to bring) and most importantly attending the mandatory driver/rider meeting at 12:30. If you miss that, you don’t get on the track. Also, be sure to fill up your gas tanks at the Love’s Travel Station in Bennett or the Conoco in Strasburg on your way to the track. You will use a fair amount of gas open lapping. You need to preregister with High Plains to participate at www.highplainsraceway.com where you will find more info on what should be a great experience. If you plan on participating, please let Tom know so we have an idea how big our presence will be. We aren’t renting the track exclusively for our club, so preregistering early is a good idea. Questions? Contact Tom or Keith (Ltsrock38@yahoo.com).
Larry Snodgrass volunteered to start working on arranging FRMC’s Annual Chili Feed for this Fall. The June meeting concluded with a 50/50 drawing with a Mustang wall clock from Joe Boils’ garage augmenting the normal cash prize. The next FRMC meeting will be held Thursday, July 9th at Romano’s Italian Restaurant at 6:30pm. Last month, Terry Frank suggested Helga’s German Restaurant and Deli in Aurora for a future meeting spot. They are said to welcome car clubs. If anyone wants to do some research on this venue for an FRMC meeting, it would be appreciated.

MCA Report
The 2026 MCA National Show schedule is detailed below in the Upcoming Events of Interest section of these minutes. The Ponies in the Ozarks MCA National Show was held May 21-24. To our knowledge, FRMC was not represented, however, the Spencer’s weren’t at the June meeting to confirm. There is one remaining National Show within driving distance of Denver, the July Mustangs on the Mother Road show in Tulsa.
CCCC Report:
The June meeting was at the Forney Museum. Keith Johnson attended for FRMC.
President’s Report:
Wendell Salas was not in attendance and is scheduled for hip surgery on June 23rd . He will be pretty much home-bound for the two months following, so our vice-president, Chrissy Weathers will be leading our meetings during that timeframe and she opened the June meeting with a recap of the National Mustang Day cruise (see below).
