Old Business

The Club has 39 paid family memberships so far for 2024.  Our most recent additions include Ron and Ann Fox with a very hot looking 2019 GT Coupe, Joe Bolas who owns a classic 1966 Shelby GT350 and is President of SAAC Colorado, and Larry Cooper who is restoring a 1968 289 Coupe.
Sadly, the 11th Annual Lincoln Tech Car Show at the Lincoln College of Technology,  11194 E 45th Ave, Denver, CO, was snowed out on April 27th but will be rescheduled we think.
As I prepare these minutes, President Larry and several other FRMC members are in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Rio Grande Mustang Club’s MCA Regional Show, and the Annual Taste of Philly/Max Taps Charity Car Show at the corner of University and County Line Road in Highlands Ranch is about to be held on Sunday, May 19th starting at 10am.  Donations will go to veterans’ organizations with coordination by the Highlands Ranch Hot Rodders Club.  This has been a great opportunity to seek out new FRMC members in the past.
Remaining events for club members in May include the Memorial Day weekend Yellowstone Mustang Rally Run to Cody, Wyoming including overnight stays in the historic Irma Hotel.  There will be a poker run over Bear Tooth Pass in Montana and a chuck wagon dinner at the Red Lodge Inn.  Saturday night is the Awards Dinner and Sunday is the autocross to loop through Yellowstone.  Past rallies are featured in the Yellowstone Mustang Rally Facebook page and several FRMC members will be embarking on this journey led by Mike Thomas.  Mike also led a cruise of Mustang enthusiasts to Rosie’s Diner on Saturday, May 11th.
For June, the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup will run from Thursday to Saturday June 13th to the 15th.  The Mountain Tour will be a drive up Pikes Peak from 10 to noon on Thursday, June 13th with the Autocross held on Friday at Pikes Peak International Raceway.  There will be no open track day at PPIR this year, but the popular Show ‘n Shine and other concluding activities will finish off in Cripple Creek with the host hotel, the brand new Chamonix Casino Hotel.  Also, the 2024 Bullitt Nationals will be held at the Roundup.  There is still time to volunteer to help Wendell Salas and Gary Spencer with registration or other activities.  If you are participating in the Roundup, consider donating a little of your time to help out as FRMC is a major sponsor of the event.

Other suggestions are very welcome.  Contact one of the officers with your ideas as FRMC is always looking for more volunteers and input.

New Business

Some additional events not covered in old business above were discussed at the April meeting and are in the list of Upcoming Club or Events of Interest section below.  Many of these also have flyers that are included in the FRMC website Bullitt-n Board section.  Of particular interest are the June 9th Concours d’ Elegance at Arapahoe Community College that has several members participating, the All Ford Picnic and Car Show in Golden on June 23,  the photo shoot with the Stang Evil P-51 Mustang fighter plane at the Rocky Mountain Metro Airport on June 29th, and the 48th Annual Horsefeathers - All Ford Power Car Show on July 27th.
There is a 1973 Mustang coupe listed for sale in our website Classifieds section that might be of interest to some of you.  It features a lot of upgrades made by the recently deceased owner and appears to be a pretty nice first gen car.
With summer in full swing, your officers are looking for ideas for driving/show events to keep our Mustangs busy.  Some suggestions discussed so far include:
  • A road trip to Colorado Springs to view the National Museum of World War II Aviation
  • Visit the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
  • Tour the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden
  • Visit the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver
  • Tour Cars Remember When in Englewood with their always changing inventory
  • A track day at High Plains Raceway for members.  This will be something we explore once the scheduled events in April through June are behind us.

Other suggestions are very welcome.  Contact one of the officers with your ideas as FRMC is always looking for more volunteers and input.
The next FRMC meeting will be Thursday, July 11th at 7pm at Romano’s Italian Restaurant in Littleton at 5666 S. Windermere Street.  We were unable to secure the room for June due to the restaurant having previously reserved it for a Medicare sales seminar, but there is so much going on that month, we often don’t hold a member meeting anyway.

Treasurer's Report

Per Treasurer, Tom Ferguson, the Club had $1,689.00 in the Vectra Bank checking account as of the meeting date.  FRMC dues for 2024 are $50.00 and can be sent to Tom at 525 Fox Hunt Circle, Highlands Ranch 80126.  Please make the dues checks out to FRMC rather than Tom.  Tom is holding the name tags for new members Todd Griffin and Jim and Susan Johnston.  Please come to a future event to get your tags, guys!

MCA Report

John McNurney had his article on his 1965/66 carryover Shelby GT350 published in the May issue of the MCA’s Mustang Times magazine.  It was featured as the “centerfold” model with some great pictures and prose from John on its history.  The club also got a shout-out in the article.
