Old Business

The Club has 40 paid family memberships so far for 2024.  Our most recent additions include Dean and Denise Gianarkis who own a Grabber Orange 2008 Shelby GT-C and Dick and Candy Thompson who organized the recent photo shoot with a P-51 Mustang fighter plane, will be our reps to the Collector Car Council of Colorado (CCCC) and have a red 2018 Convertible GT.
June was an very busy month for Mustang fans with the Concours d’Elegance at Arapahoe Community College, the Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup at PPIR and Cripple Creek with 325 cars registered for the event and 231 vehicles parked for display at the Show n’ Shine, the Colorado Mustang Stampede in Steamboat, the All Ford Picnic sponsored by the Fairlane Club in Golden with some 150 cars attending, and the P-51 photo shoot.  Thanks to the members who served as organizers and volunteers for the Roundup!  I don’t think anyone missed FRMC not having its usual monthly meeting with all those opportunities to get your pony out in June.
One other note, the Yellowstone Rally was held at the end of May with FRMC having several members participating.  Special thanks go out to Travis and Shelly Reeder who stepped in to lead the Rally after Mike Thomas went into the hospital unexpectantly.  They did a super job and I understand the Rally was a great success.  Thanks guys!  I know Mike really appreciated you stepping up as he expressed during the July meeting.

New Business

With the driving season in full swing, your officers are looking for ideas for driving/show events to keep our Mustangs busy.  Some suggestions discussed so far include:
  • A road trip to Colorado Springs to view the National Museum of World War II Aviation
  • Visit the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley
  • Tour the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden
  • Visit the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver
  • Tour Cars Remember When in Englewood with their always changing inventory
  • A track day at High Plains Raceway for members (see below).
  • Mike Thomas is getting his health back and is looking into some cruises for the Sept/Oct timeframe.
Other suggestions are very welcome.  Contact one of the officers with your ideas as FRMC is always looking for more volunteers and input.
With the Roundup over for 2024, the organizers will be looking to start planning for 2025 and the first meeting is scheduled for August 17th.  Wendell Salas has been chairman of the organizing committee for several years, but is looking to stepdown so he can assume the Presidency for FRMC next year.  If anyone is interested in helping with the RMMR planning and stepping in for Wendell, contact him about the position and attending the planning sessions.  With Wendell moving into the Presidency of FRMC that means Larry Standiford will be retiring from the role he’s held as long as I’ve been in the club.  Gary Spencer is also hinting that he is ready to move on from being the VP.  With all the growth FRMC has experienced in the last two years, I’m hoping someone will step forward to join Wendell, Gary (possibly) and myself in the officer positions.
Open Lapping Day at High Plains Raceway near Byers – Keith Johnson and I have been looking at organizing a half day (1pm – 5pm) session for $149 per driver at High Plains on one of the following Thursdays:  July 25, August 1, 22, September 12, October 3, 10.  Our thinking is Thursday, October 10th works best as it will be cooler, but not cold weather and can be followed up with a monthly club meeting at the annual Chili Feed on Saturday, October 12th (see below).  I know from experience that a half day is plenty of track time on the fabulous HPR road course and I guarantee you will have a great experience.  No prior experience is needed and the track personnel lead new comers around the track so you can gain familiarity before starting open laps.  I need feedback from interested members to see if October 10th works for the event, so reply to me if you’d like to participate and I or Keith can let the track know we’re coming so it doesn’t sell out before we act.  Registration and track information is available at www.highplainsraceway.com.
Annual Chili Feed – Dan Ryhal and Cathy Wagner have once again volunteered their beautiful home in Pine for the club’s fall Chili Feed.  They have said any weekend dates in September work and all but October 19 and 20th are good too.  As noted above, I’m thinking following the track day at HPR on October 10th with the Chili Feed on Saturday, October 12th would be a great way to close out the club’s fall activities.  Again, I need feedback on interest on that date, October 12th,  so reply to me so we can start planning.

FRMC Club Polo Shirts – I’ve had a few new members come to me asking about the availability of our club polos (men’s and women’s).  I believe we need a minimal order of six for the vendor to fill an order, so I will be sending out a separate email to give details on the shirts and assess interest in a new order.
The next FRMC meeting will be Thursday, August 8th at 7pm at Romano’s Italian Restaurant in Littleton at 5666 S. Windermere Street.
